Hi everyone. Yes, it’s been quiet around the old blog lately, but that wasn’t because I took a writing siesta. On the contrary, I’ve been busier than ever trying to finish Cat and Bones #5. Yesterday evening, I wrote the two most satisfying words in the English language: THE END.
That’s right, Cat and Bones 5 is now officially in my editor’s hands. It was a rollercoaster to write and I can’t wait to get my editor’s feedback on it (and my critt partner’s as well). As every writer knows, “the end” really just means “take one.” I’ll still having revising and polishing to do on it.
Also, there’s a tentative title for book five: THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE. Why only a tentative title? Because the marketing department at my publishing house may decide on something else. I’m hoping this title sticks, though. Cross your fingers for me :). As I mentioned before, book five will release on February 22, 2011. For everyone jonesing for a Cat and Bones fix before then, fear not; I have a short story featuring them called One For the Money in the DEATH’S EXCELLENT VACATION anthology out in August of this year. And of course, you’ll see Cat and Bones as side characters in ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS, coming out the end of July. I’m in the process of having a book trailer made for ETERNAL and I can’t wait to show everyone. Look for that the later part of this month.
In other news, I’m happy to report that my wonderful agent Nancy Yost sold three more of my books to Blackstone Audio, so now it’s official – the first four books in the Night Huntress series plus First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, book one) will all have audio editions. Halfway to the Grave is already out in audio, with One Foot in the Grave due out in November, I believe. I’m so pleased to have these audio versions upcoming. I know many of you have been waiting for them.
And now, I’m going to take a day or so to catch up on my sleep – heh – and then try to tackle the inbox. It’s gotten rather scary in the past couple weeks while I back-burnered most everything else to finish the book. Next week, I turn in the proposal for C&B #6 and then start writing that. No rest for the wicked! 🙂
Hope everyone has a great week.

Yahoo! I can’t wait for more books. If there is a place to voe to help you get more books bought by publishers lemme know. Your series is th emost fun i’ve had in reading in quite a while. *dances* an is te first series to make me run out and reserve copies in about 5 years.
Already have EKOD and DEV on order! Can’t wait to see the trailer for EKOD. Hope you get a little rest between writing and have a great week yourself!
I can’t wait for the next C*B book. Congrats on finishing the first round.
Hi J! Congrats on finishing the book! Any news on a possible Vlad book?!? Please enjoy your well deserved rest!
So many great news rolled up in one! =D I’m very, very excited about the audiobooks. I was just now re-listening to chapter 12, morning-after regrets =) te he he.
One I really, really want to see out as audiobook is First Drop of Crimson. Would it released in the same order they were published, or could I hope to see it in Audible before some of the others? *sighs*
A tiny question, do you re-read all the books in the series before starting a new one, or do you go back to check as need be?
Have a happy and restful week =D
“One I really, really want to see out as audiobook is First Drop of Crimson. Would it released in the same order they were published, or could I hope to see it in Audible before some of the others?”
To my knowledge, they’re releasing in the order that they were pubbed.

Thanks for replying Jeaniene! 😀 😀

Audio editions, awesome that means i dont have to dog ear my books or buy more. i can sit down and listen to the books. i cant wait to get those. So looking forward to EKD and book 5, i hope you can keep that title, it makes sense.
*clap, clap, clap* Congratulations for finishing another book -hope you get some rest now! 🙂
I also like the title, so I hope the marketing department will decide to keep it. I’m Sabbath-born and according to my people’s traditions, when a Sabbathborn wishes for something, it happens -so there you go! 😀
I’m looking forward to Cat & Bones #5 and the short story AND the Mencheres book this summer. I will devour them all as I devoured the first 4 books & FDoC, I’m sure.
And because I’m greedy, I’m also hoping your editors will give you the ok for an Ian and/or (AND! AND!) Vlad book.
Congrats on finishing another B*C book. I’m with everyone else when I say I love them and can’t wait for more. I’ve already preordered FDOC and the DEV. Wish time would go by faster so I could have them already, see what u do to me, I’d rather age faster just to get your books!!!! LOL
I also hope the title “This Side of the Grave” so hopefully *fingers crossed and praying* they won’t change it.
Have a wonderful, relaxing few days and remember we are all counting on you to keep writing awesome books. And I agree that Vlad, Ian, Juan and Tate need books too. I know, no pressure right!!! But you write so awesome anyway you don’t need to worry. We, your fans, love ya.

The inbox can get mighty ugly. My trick is making folders in Outlook Express. Then I move emails from the inbox to the folders for reading later. Yes, indeedy, then I have this cool feeling of accomplishment, even though I still have HUGE folders with emails to reply too. *snort*
Congrats on THE END, even if there is work left to do!
I am so happy to hear more Cat and Bones books are coming. I am officially obsessed with them. Keep up the great work!
YEEEAAAH! You’re amazing! And also fast! I wish you your muse to be always with you! You are one of my favorite writers! LUv your work and this wonderful world you’ve created in your books!
I am from Bulgaria, and soon enough people here will be able to read your books in bulgarian, but I can assure you that they are very popular even now! Good luck with everything (also with your inbox 🙂 )

GREAT NEWS! Will they be using the same lady to read them as the first book? She was ok, but I wasn’t a fan of her Bones voice totally. But I still LOVE listening to them. I’ll pretty much buy anything you put out haha, I have everything that has a release day on preorder already!! WOOO!
Woo Hoo! I have been waiting for this POST! Was just talking to my girlfriend about book 5! How exciting! Have Pre-Ordered the others already!

jeaniene frost indeed deserved all the success. 🙂
I read that the audio rights to AT GRAVE’S END, DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE, and FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON have been sold to Blackstone Audio. I went to their website, but they only sell to libraries. Do you know if individuals will ever be able to purchase these audio books?
Would really love that!!!
You can go to iTunes or Audible.com to buy individuals, plus Barnes and Noble sells the audio versions. Or check your preferred audio retailer. Hope that helps. Thanks!
Unfortunately, they’re not available at any of those sites. Only ‘Halfway to the Grave’ is available… which is awesome BTW!!!
Kristin, the other books aren’t published in audio format yet :). That’s why they’re not available. One Foot in the Grave will be out in November, while First Drop of Crimson will be out July 5th. Don’t have dates yet for the others, but as of now, only Halfway to the Grave is out.
