Time flies

January 24, 2010 by Jeaniene 13 Comments

I can’t believe it’s been over a week since I last blogged. As the title of this post says, wow, time flies.

Things accomplished this week: Revised/rewrote beginning of a story, completed four interviews, critted half a friend’s book (rest isn’t written yet), fiddled with updates on my website (still need to do more), answered messages in inbox until nothing but stuff sent this week is left, went out with inlaws, and saw LEGION (loved it even though hubby hated it). Today, I’m hoping to get some good new word count in. Wish me luck!

One of the emails I answered this week was from Karen over at For What It’s Worth. Karen asked if I would donate some signed books for an auction to benefit the Doctors Without Borders Haitian relief fund. I said yes, of course, and other authors like Kelley Armstrong, Gena Showalter, Jeri Smith Ready, Ilona Andrews, Angie Fox, and Cynthia Eden are donating signed books as well. Kelley Armstrong’s auction just went up, so head on over to  http://forwhatitsworth-kea.blogspot.com/  and cast your bid! You’ll be helping those affected by the devastating earthquake and getting some signed books, too. It’s a win-win. More details on when my books go up for auction – and possibly something else thrown in – later when I have them.

Now for your reading enjoyment, here is a scene snippet from the upcoming FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON. In the coming weeks I will be shamelessly ripping off Ilona Andrews by posting snippets leading up to FDOC’s release. Those of you who follow Ilona’s blog know she’s famous for posting lots of snippets and a good idea should be shared, right? Yeah, I thought so, too ;).

So, here’s the snippet. Enjoy!

Denise kept herself perfectly still, listening to the slow slide of Spade’s zipper being drawn down on his pants, the brush of fabric against skin as he drew his shirt off, and then the sounds of him gathering up his discarded clothes. Suddenly, that bone-deep lethargy was gone and she felt very awake. Imagining Spade so close, totally naked, made her eyelids almost burn to open.

The shower came on, that cascade of water dulling the soft sounds Spade made. Where was he now? He moved so quietly, he could be right in front of her and she wouldn’t know it. What if she opened her eyes and Spade was right there, close enough to touch?

Denise couldn’t help it; her eyes slit open. Nothing in front of her. A soft click on the other side of the room was the shower door opening, she guessed. That was confirmed when she heard it again, the cadence of the water changing as Spade moved under the spray.

The water will steam the glass opaque, Denise reasoned. You won’t be able to see anything. In fact, it’s probably steamed up now…

As quietly as she could, she rolled over, keeping her face half concealed by the pillow.

The light in the shower illuminated Spade’s bare, gorgeous flesh. The glass wasn’t fogged. It didn’t even look like it was there, giving her an uninterrupted view of him under the cascade of water. The sight made her lick her lips before she could stop herself.

Then Denise shut her eyes. Congratulations, you’re officially a Peeping Tom. She should be ashamed, spying on Spade like that. If she had any dignity, she’d roll back over and face the wall. Now.

     She opened her eyes again…

Love the snipett, stoping where you did was cruel. 🙂 Guess I just have to wait. Love your books more than BDB. My friends and I have a little bookclub we read all paranormal romance. One of them even made me a bones t shirt for Christmas. It says Hallo Luv on the front with a skull and crossbones. Best gift I ever got. Can’t wait for the rest, you have a loyal fan here.

We all know what is going to happen, but I’m excited to see what does happen. Spade and Denise who would have thought about it. Certainly not I, but I know its going to make a great story. Excited to buy it!!! 🙂
