Special charity auction results, random chatter, new series title

June 7, 2011 by Jeaniene Frost 39 Comments

Hello! I meant to do this post over the weekend, but I caught a writing wave with Vlad’s book and as every author knows, you ride the wave when it comes. They are fickle things, those writing waves. Anyway, a belated (but sincere!) thank you to everyone who participated in my prior auction to benefit the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund. The winning bid was cast by Michelle Cummings in the whopping amount of $425.00. Michelle sent me her receipt for the donation, and as promised, below is my receipt matching it (address and credit card numbers omitted for obvious reasons :)).

So between Michelle’s winning bid and my matching donation, that was $850.00 raised toward disaster relief! Very cool! Also as promised, Michelle’s prizes are a signed Arc of One Grave at a Time, a signed copy of Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews, and a signed copy of The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. Hope you enjoy the books, Michelle!

In other news, I was going to post some pretty pictures I took outside my new home (okay, the home isn’t actually new, but it’s new to me!) but I can’t find the %$*! cord that connects my camera to my computer to transfer them. I hope that cord wasn’t a victim of the move and that I find it soon. Otherwise, my camera is kinda old and I know I’ll get that raised brow look if I bring it into an electronics store and ask for a compatible cord (you should have SEEN the look I got when I finally upgraded my cell phone last year. That look was even accompanied by a “Wow, I didn’t even know these things were still in use!” comment).

Back to writing (I warned you that this post would have random chatter in it). Vlad and Leila’s book still doesn’t have a title. I’m kicking around a few possibles with my editor, but we haven’t hit an “aha!” moment yet. We did, however, agree on a series title for V & L’s books, so I can share the news on that.

*drumroll*

Vlad and Leila’s books will be part of the new Night Prince series.

Okay, why “Night Prince”? For one, the word “Night” will – hopefully – let readers know at a glance that these stories are set in the same world as my Night Huntress series and Night Huntress World novels. Second, contrary to the most popular fictional rendering of Vlad the Impaler, he was not a Count. He was essentially a Prince of Wallachia during his reign (Wallachia now being part of modern-day Romania). So there you have the Prince part of the series title.

Tentative release date for the first book in the Night Prince series is spring 2012. It may be pushed back to summer if (a) I don’t write it fast enough, or (b) what I write needs a lot of revisions. So cross your fingers for me that I will write well, and quickly, lol. I haven’t seen the cover yet for the first book, but as Tom Egner has done such a fabulous job with all my other covers, I’m sure he’s cooking up something very cool.

Before anyone asks, no, this doesn’t mean Cat and Bones stories will be put on a long hold while I kickstart Vlad and Leila’s new series. First, still to come in 2011 for our mayhem-loving vampire couple is One Grave at a Time (August 30th) along with a special holiday novella that’s almost half the size of a regular book in The Bite Before Christmas anthology (October 25th). Vlad and Leila’s book will come, as stated, in early 2012, but then after that, we’ll be onto Cat and Bones #7 (still untitled, but expect the word “grave” in there somewhere).

And I just noticed that you could play a drinking game with all the parenthesis in this post. Clearly I need more coffee before I start back on writing (drink! :)).

Congratulations on the success of the auction for such a worthy cause – and congrats to the winner!

LOVE Vlad and Leila’s series title! I cannot wait to learn more about this “hot” (in more ways than one) vampire that is really growing on so many of us.

And I’m really looking forward to two more helpings of Cat and Bones this year! THANKS, JEANIENE, YOU’RE AWESOME!

All of the above is wonderful!

    Does the Night Prince series mean we will be having more than one Vlad book? Dare I hope? You know how hard I’d been hoping for even ONE Vlad book. :-}

J, I have replaced my camera cord three times in the last 4 years and I haven’t moved! However, my darling sons tell me they always return it after borrowing it, so I think th cords grow legs or maybe just slither away on their own. Surely my children would not tell me untruths and expect to live. LMAO!

    Ride the wave…..

Lol, Debu, I know it will break your heart to hear that Vlad will have two books at least. We’ll see if I have more stories to tell after that.

And I’m sure your children are telling the truth and that your cords did indeed grow legs *snicker*.

Your posts always make me smile, and usually laugh. I just moved my office across the hall so that I could have my own unshared space and you wouldn’t believe what I’ve lost. And found. 🙂

I’m trying to track down a Kim Harrison book and I believe it may have been “borrowed” by a certain brother in law and I am pretty $#@%ing mad about it! But Cat, Bones and crew made it safely, so we will thank the universe for that.

I know you have 9 books in C&B’s plot line, I just can’t imagine Cat ever being able to sit still if she thinks there’s something or someone who needs killing. Lol. So I selfishly hope that even though you may get them to a happy place, they’ll still pop up else where in short stories and cameos. Killing things and being hilarious and sexy while doing it. 😉

Oh, yeah I love Vlad! Remember when Cat was trying to gain control of the evil Marie ju-ju ghosts and he was all (paraphrasing here) “I know I’m delicious. Nummy. Nummy.” Hysterical!

I’d love to see what kind of trouble Juan gets into and even Justina. I’d like to see her beliefs/attitudes challenged. It would make for some pretty funny circumstances.

Okay, that one is a toughy, because we scarcely know anything about the Vlad books. Which does make sense of course, but the titles of First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness are just perfect, with all the attention on Denises blood and Kira as Mencheres’ darkness. Yeah, anyway, that makes me rather reluctant to offer any names for the book, because with the little information we have, I don’t think we can come up with a title that fits that well. I’m not prying or begging for information here, not because I’m above that, but because I know that won’t do me any good. Yeah, anyway, just my two cents, but I rather like “Once burnt, twice shy”. It fits what I’m expecting pretty perfectly. Then again you always surprise me and my guess can be way off here. Like that the “burnt” could describe more than one thing at once and I’m a big fan of the reoccuring words in a series, so something pyro’d be pretty cool. Dunno. Just think about it for a sec and if you don’t like it, that’s okay, at least I know I tried. 😀 Congrats to the “new” house btw, know I’m a little late, but better late than never.. Losing cords *snicker* Sorry, but this is exactly what drove me nuts last summer, when I moved. Love “Night Prince”. Well chosen series title.

Hallo! Always lovely to hear from you! Although I’m sure you know you can post anything and know we’ll love to read it.

I will now attempt to engage my brain in titles for Vlad the Flame Igniter. He has so many qualities though, it might be hard to narrow down. “Smoldering the Beloved” has a two way meaning. 😉 That’s just off the top of my head. I’ll work on it. :p
I hope you are enjoying your evening and thanks again for the update! Hope you enjoyed more of the songs that I sent previously. 🙂

How awsome for the Red Cross! My job did something similar during memorial day to help Veterans…it was so much fun, I spent about $120 myself and then we had two companies match what we raised. I feel for your camera. I lost my cord do to a certain male in my house. I have to go get a new one which I really need to do considering I need it for my vacay in August. Way must there always be something missing?

Super excited to hear about all the great progress being made. I have a suggestion about your pictures, considering my cord walked out on me 2 years ago & no local stores sold replacements (my camera is also old) I just take the memory card straight out of the camera and put it into the computer. It prompts for a transfer and there you have it pictures from your camera to your computer without a pesky cord. Hope this helps. 🙂

J I accidently found one of your books in the library sales rack just a month ago and am finishing the last one of both Night World and Night Huntress series. I mostly listened to them on MP3. Can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed your imagination! I am glad you are going to do a book on Vlad. I rather like him. Keep up the good work. I love getting lost in the world of your mind. By the way, the voice on your audio books is doing a fantastic job also.

I can’t wait for Vlad’s series. This means he’s getting more then one book…I love it. I love what you have done with the Vlad character making him more then the stereotype we know of Dracula. I can’t wait to see the type of woman you come up with for him. I hope she knocks his socks off!!!!
